We were given this little Christmas tree as a teeny tiny sapling, little more than a stick with roots, when we took Rufus to see Father Christmas when he was just six months old. I stuck it in a pot and didn't think much more about it. And now it's a little old tree. Not the most shapely or the most perfect Christmas tree around, but it's ours and this year I wanted to make it part of our Christmas.
Rufus has been asking me to put lights on it and decorate it for the last three years, and I never got round to it. But this year I've turned it into an advent tree - just for him and Laurie.
I've strung it with lights and a star garland that I made by sewing together stars I stamped out of white card using a craft punch. I hung little red and white jingle bells onto the branches and filled mini red and white houses and little striped paper bags with all sorts of treats. Chocolates, sweets, badges and mini decorations. Each box or bag has a little number on a tag to be hunted out by little hands.
It looks so sweet and simple. Perfect for two very excited little boys. It's hidden away until next week and I can't wait for them to see it.
